The captivating history of Okumidori cultivar dates back to 1974 when it was officially registered by the National Institute of Vegetable and Tea Science in Kanaya. Born from a thoughtful crossbreeding of Yabukita and Zairai, this remarkable cultivar boasts a unique charm.

The art of preserving favourable characteristics in tea plants led to the birth of cultivars like Okumidori. Its ability to bud a bit later in the spring season, coupled with resilience to cold temperatures and frosts, made it an instant favourite among farmers. For this tea, we suggest you try the traditional Chinese Gong Fu style of brewing your tea. The idea behind this technique is to use larger proportions of tea leaves to water and very short brewing times. By using more tea leaves and having very short brewing, you only succeed in extracting parts of the entire flavor spectrum. The tea can then be enjoyed in so-called "sections", which gives a much more nuanced experience. As the flavor develops gradually and there are many more leaves, this contributes to a significantly more intense flavor than broadleaf
