Keemun Congou is a classic black tea originating from the scenic lowland region of Qimen in southern Anhui Province, China. Although the area is now world-famous for this particular tea, its history began relatively late – only in the late 19th century, when a tea producer from Fujian introduced the technique of producing black Congou to the region. The result was an immediate success, and Keemun has since become one of the world’s most prized black teas.
This tea is characterized by its full-bodied and slightly stronger character, while also carrying a clear elegance. The taste is round and well-structured with a slight earthy tone that gives depth and complexity. In the background, you can often sense subtle nuances of cocoa, dried fruit or a mild smokiness, which contributes to a rich and balanced taste experience.
The brew has a beautiful dark amber tone and a smooth, pleasant mouthfeel that makes it an excellent tea to enjoy on its own or with a splash of milk. Keemun Congou is particularly well suited for those seeking a more powerful tea, but without compromising on finesse and harmony.
It is a tea that carries both history and character – perfect for quiet moments when you want to immerse yourself in a richer and more expressive world of flavors.
