This delicious Nepal black tea is from one of two young and successful tea gardens set high in the hills around Hile in the Dhankuta district of the eastern Himalayan region of Nepal, not far from Sikkim and Darjeeling to the east, and Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) to the north.

The tea garden is less than 25 km adjoining from the steamy and lush jungles of Terai lowlands. The temperature in Jun Chiyabari Tea Garden is on average about 20°C, in which between the south and north multitudes of micro climate and terroir exist. The mixing of the warm air from the south and cold air from the north often covers the tea garden in cool mist enabling very good tea growing conditions.

The effect of the altitude, bright and warm sunny days interrupted by cool mountain mists and chilly nights leave the tea invariably light and aromatic; and depending on the variety or cultivar and processing the tea can feel flowery, fruity, grassy or nutty. The unprocessed tea leaves come from small plots between 1650 and 2200 metres above sea level which are within a 10 km radius of the factory. Within and between these small plots on the hilly slopes are forests, bamboo groves, rocky boulders, brooks and streams.
This is the terroir from which the Jun Chiyabari Second Flush 2020 is created.

The tea is a wonderful example of a second flush tea plucked in the early summer months and exhibits similar qualities of Darjeeling whilst still being distinctly different. The dry leaf has a mixed dark and green leaf appearance with good tip. The brewed tea leaves produce a light amber liquor.

This is a deliciously warm, nutty and fruity tea with a complex mix of aroma and taste that really delights the senses. There are some toasty notes present with pleasant orange blossom undertones. A complex and hugely enjoyable tea.

Serving tips

For this tea we suggest trying the Western-style of brewing. The idea behind it is to use much less leaf and much more water while brewing-times are much longer to extract as much of the flavor as possible at once.
