This Sencha from Shizouka prefecture is made from the unusual tea bush "Oiwase", which is a cross between Yabukita and Yaeho. The tea is fragrant and has a refreshing taste with a perfect balance between creamy, fruity and fresh taste. This is this year's harvest directly from the tea farm in Kakegawa and it is the first time that tea from the Oiwase tea bush is in the range at The Tea Center of Stockholm.
We are a little selective when it comes to Japanese varieties of tea bushes. While we appreciate the bright and lush Yabukita and Saemidori varieties, this Oiwase Sencha manages to add a little more depth to its character.
This Oiwase Sencha has been lightly steamed – for about 30 seconds – and carefully rolled to preserve fuller tea leaves. This lighter steaming is perfectly suited to teas grown on steeper slopes, as these teas naturally have a lower degree of bitterness and astringency compared to other teas.
